Who We AreIn 2014, Joel and Tara Beauchamp founded Glory Shiners Ministries while volunteering with YWAM Athi River, Kenya.
They returned to Kenya as full time missionaries in the spring of 2016 and are continuing their journey as they transition to Nepal in the fall of 2019. Joel and Tara heard the call to be missionaries early in their marriage. Joel comes from a background in Christian Addiction Counseling where he was staff at Waypoint Center and The Jericho House. Tara has a background in children's Christian Camps working at Woodlands Camp. |
Our Kenya Story
While on a two week mission trip in the summer of 2013, Joel and Tara met a Kenyan named Julius Okoch. Julius was doing prison ministry. While ministering with Julius, Joel and Tara felt the Lord building a relationship. Upon returning to the States, the calling for full time mission work grew louder. In 2014, Joel and Tara returned to Kenya for a six month missionary commitment to explore God's calling.
Joel and Tara volunteered at the Youth With A Mission Athi River Base and would periodically take outreach trips to visit Pastor Julius and the prisons. As the six months progressed Joel and Tara could sense the ministry growing. The outreach to the prisons began to develop into personal relationships with staff, inmates and of course Julius and his family.
It seemed appropriate to build the ministry to the next level. Prayerfully, Joel, Tara and Julius registered Glory Shiners Ministry as a society with the Kenyan Government. This registering would allow Julius to develop the prison ministry into other prisons and establish a board of directors for spiritual and financial accountability.
Joel and Tara founded Glory Shiners Ministries as a non-profit upon returning to the States. Previously they had a blog titled "Shine Out Of Darkness" and felt like the name "Glory Shiners"was a good fit to their ministry---as the goals are the same---to shine the glory of God into dark places.
Joel and Tara want to expand as the Lord leads and minister not only in East Africa but the world.....to anyone living in darkness.

Our Nepal Story
In 2015, after the earthquake that devastated most of Nepal, Joel felt the Lord putting Nepal on his heart. Joel traveled from kenya to kathmandu, Nepal in October of 2015...not knowing who he was going to see or what he was going to do just that the Lord wanted him there.
Upon checking into his hotel and checking his email he realized he had a message from Dean Perry his Genesis Counselor instructor. Dean saw that Joel was in Kathmandu and asked if he would stop by Vision Rehab Center, a Christian addiction center. Dean said the director at VRC had inquired about The Genesis Process Counseling. So Joel agreed and met Parasu Giri and Shon Maharjan for breakfast the next day. After meeting with Parasu and Shon, Joel realized why God had called him to Nepal! Parasu and Shon had been running a Christian recovery program and wanted to get some training in the Genesis Process. Joel spent the remaining time he had in Nepal working with some of the men and training Shon and Parasu. Ever since that first encounter in 2015, Joel has been traveling to Nepal periodically and working with Vision Rehab Center.
January of 2019 God released Joel and Tara from Kenya. They felt like the ministry in Kenya was at a place to be run by the local Kenyans they had been training. Joel and Tara have taken a supportive roll for the ministry in Kenya by continuing to provide prayer and financial support. They are currently focusing their ministry efforts on Nepal. The goal in Nepal is to train staff and develop the structure at Vision Rehab Center and to provide employment for the graduates for sustainability.
Please join them on our journey as they follow the Lord's lead.
"For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. For it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."
