School Hats and Flip Flops, 2015
Glory Shiners Junior Academy
The first thing I did when I arrived in Kenya was stop and visit the kids at Glory Shiners Junior Academy. I love seeing there smiles and hearing their laughter. I had two army duffle bags full of winter hats and flip flops to give out and I could not wait any longer. As soon as Julius and I arrived the kids irrupted with excitement. We always inform the teachers prior to our arrival because having class with so much excitement is nearly impossible.
As we were handing out the hats, Julius informed the kids that God had provided them through donors. Not only had they provided them but they had made them by hand...and each one had been prayed over. The Hooks and Needles knitting group from CFUMC had begun a project of supplying each child with a hand knitted winter hat to match their uniform and I was getting to witness that project come to completion. Most of these kids are in very dire circiumstances and as we placed the flip flops on their little feet and handed them a hat for their head I could sense the overwhelming feeling that these kids realized how important they are...that God does care for and love them.
Julius, the teachers, the kids and myself are so grateful for all the support given for the school. The feeding program is such a blessing for the whole community. Leftover food is distributed to families and I hear of kids taking half their meal home with them to share. Also, the new playground equipment is definitely being used.
It is such a blessing to see the schools impact on so many lives...all in the name of Jesus.
